vitalQIP Release 7.2 Generally Available

January 12, 2009. Lucent Technologies has announced the release of VitalQIP Release 7.2, which is generally available since January 2009.

VitalQIP® ist the market-leading solution for IP Address Management (IPAM). With Release 7.2 Alcatel Lucent has launched a version with improvements a lot of user have waited for very long.

The most important new features are:
  • Improved Web GUI with full functionality
  • Attributes for a flexible support of customer-specific contents
  • Personalized views with "myView"
  • integrated feauture for automatic subnet-assignment
  • Support of Bind-Views

The Web GUI has been completely reworked and offers a full functionality of the product now which became very userfriendly and appears in a very clear and logic view. It is no longer neccessary to roll-out the native GUI to every single workstation. The administrators only have to access the central Enterprise Server via their web browser instead, without using any additional software, i.e. such as a Java Client. Besides that the new GUI offers a lot more of innovative functions. The new tool „myView" enables the definition of different views to the database. This views could also be provided to other administrators for having faster access to the required information. It has to be highlighted that the assimilation of views is not only possible by choosing singular objects, but also dynamically by definition of considerable criterions.

An additional improvement of the new GUI is the presentation of DNS-domains in a tree-structure, corresponding with the domain-hirarchy, as well as in any improved wildcard-search.

Customers which have an extremely extended database will definitively welcome the effective and time-saving possibility of VitalQIP 7.2 to execute DNS- and DHCP-generatings in the background while working parallel at the GUI. The status of every single generating-job can be traced at any time.

A further improvement, compared to the former „User Defined Fields“, are the so called „attributes“. With this attributes Customers can deposit their own information on almost any desired location in the database. Every attribute can be defined and can be preset as a mandatory or an optional field. In addition the attributes can be clumped arbitrary.

The Node Management enables the administration of devices with several IP- and MAC-Adresses. This makes it possible to associate Ipv4- as well as Ipv6-Addresses.

For IPv4 as well as for IPv6 VitalQIP 7.2 offers an automatic subnet administration. Wide-spread address areas could be defined and administrated, together with rules which are assigning how subnets should be applied including all containing objects when required.

Also the maintenance and the management of administrators have been improved. The new version enables to define very flexible rules for password-security (minimum length, aging, etc.) and the existing administrators could be cloned directly in the GUI for making it much more easy applying a new one.

On the support-level of DNS-Servers, an innovation on which several customers have waited for long, the support of the so called "Bind-Views" was added. With its help the definition of different views to one single DNS-Server gets finally possible.
