n3k announces new release of runIP
runIP Release 2.1 Generally Available
August 1, 2006 .. n3k has today announced the General Availability of Release 2.1
for the highly successful runIP Managed Appliance for VitalQIP environments.
Key New Features
- improved administrative rights
- integration with authentication services
- support for IP-Anycast
- complete support for all VitalQIP Add-on Modules
- integrated monitoring of both DNS and the runIP Appliance hardware
Features in a Little More Detail
Administrative rights can now be defined to create specific roles.
Roles can then be assigned to as many administrators as desired.
This permits consistent management through clear delegation of responsibilities between administrators.
A call-out has now been included so that customers can incorporate authentication via services such as RADIUS and LDAP. This further enhances the attraction and robustness of the runIP Appliance as a key building block in an overall network management and control system.
The incorporation of support for IP-Anycast for DNS offers an alternative to fail over using paired appliances and creates the ability to incorporate distributed DNS service failsafe in large networks.
Support for VitalQIP Add On Modules has been enhanced so that all modules are now supported, increasing the number of clients who can incorporate runIP Appliances into their IP Management infrastructure.
New appliance monitoring and management features have been incorporated so that the status of DNS zones as well as the physical status of the runIP Appliance hardware platform can be reported such as temperature, fan speed and power pack status.

About runIP
The runIP Appliance was introduced in March 2004 and is now successfully deployed in over 30 countries globally.
The ease of configuration, the tight integration with VitalQIP and the support for the widest range of versions of
VitalQIP has made it the appliance of choice. The particular strength of remote updating, the wide range of
administrative capabilities, the ability to deliver major, minor and patch updates via a simple, consistent
point and click interface, the ability to group runIP Appliances for management and upgrading and the equally
simple point and click roll back all combine to deliver a very strong product offering. Incorporating the ability
to build fail safe DNS service configurations either by deploying paired appliances (which incorporate the fastest
switch over on DNS failure available) or through the use of IP-Anycast to create distributed fail over also contribute
to making the runIP Appliance uniquely attractive.
